Please, find some initial resources related to addiction and substance abuse.* I will continue to add to the page. If you have suggestions please let me know by contacting me here or by posting below. Thanks.
*Please, note that I am not a medical professional or addiction counselor. I have reviewed each of these resources, but have not done in-depth checks on these sites and do not recommend a particular resource below.
Addiction Resource: https://addictionresource.com/: A first line resource for referrals to and support around addiction of all types. The site also provides information for practitioners such as clergy or therapists, advocates, lay leaders, or teachers. They also provide the phone number 1-800- 662-4357 (HELP) for immediate connection to a helpline available in English and Spanish.
www.alansamuelcohen.com/recovery/: A Recovery Coach is a professional coach who helps addicted individuals and/or their loved ones navigate, engage in and use evidence-based treatment to recover, reconnect to themselves and re-engage in a healthy lifestyle. Recovery coaching improves the chances of long-term recovery and saves on health care costs. Alan Cohen is a personal and executive coach with years of experience. Along with traditional coach training, he has specific training related to progressive recovery coaching.
American Society of Addiction Medicine: http://www.asam.org/ : Aimed at medical professionals, this site and the organization represent 3700 medical professionals and provide detailed information about research, resources, and other learning opportunities related to Addiction and Addiction Medicine. This does not strike me as the site to send someone who is looking for immediate help or assistance related to his/her or a friend/loved one’s addiction.
Addiction Center: www.addictioncenter.com: Addiction Center was founded by recovering addicts and health information writers. Their goal is to provide the most up-to-date information on addiction as well as reviews of top treatment centers across the country. Addiction Center is owned and funded by Recovery Worldwide LLC, an organization that creates informational web properties on health and mental health-related topics. Addiction Center is not a treatment center, but their network of centers across the country aims to provide outlets for people seeking help. (adapted from the website)
